Deficien\u021bele severe sunt rare, dar valorile sc\u0103zute al vitaminei f\u0103r\u0103 simptome apar destul de frecvent, la p\u00e2n\u0103 la 40% din popula\u021biile occidentale [1]. Anemia pernicioas\u0103, o consecin\u021b\u0103 a deficien\u021bei, poate ap\u0103rea mai des la adul\u021bii \u00een v\u00e2rst\u0103 cu deficit de vitamina B12.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Persoanele cu gastrit\u0103 atrofic\u0103 &#8211;<\/strong>afecteaz\u0103 2% din popula\u021bie &#8211; mai preponderent persoanele \u00een v\u00e2rst\u0103 &#8211; \u0219i scade secre\u021bia de acid clorhidric din stomac, \u0219i, astfel, absorb\u021bia vitaminei.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Infec\u021bia cu Helicobacter pylori &#8211;<\/strong> aceast\u0103 bacterie provoac\u0103 inflama\u021bie care duce la malabsorb\u021bia vitaminei. Aceasta este cea mai frecvent\u0103 cauz\u0103 a deficitului de B12 \u00een \u00eentreaga lume, fiind mai prezent\u0103 la femei \u0219i persoanele de origine european\u0103.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Persoane cu tulbur\u0103ri gastrointestinale &#8211;<\/strong> persoanele cu afec\u021biuni precum boala celiac\u0103 \u0219i boala Crohn au probleme de abrorb\u021bie a vitaminei.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Persoane care au suferit interven\u021bii chirurgicale gastrointestinale &#8211; <\/strong>interven\u021biile la nivelul tractului gastrointestinal (ex. Pentru \u00eendep\u0103rtarea par\u021bial\u0103 a stomacului sau sc\u0103dere \u00een greutate) pot duce la deficien\u021be.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vegetarienii &#8211; <\/strong>dieta vegetarian\u0103 sau vegan\u0103 duce la un risc crescut de a dezvolta deficien\u021be, deoarece vitamina B12 este prezent\u0103 \u00een alimentele de origine animal\u0103.
